Verlander

MLB
Miguel Cabrera and J.D. Martinez homered, as the Detroit Tigers defeated the Kansas City Royals 5-3 last night. The Royals took an early lead, scoring all three of their runs off Justin Verlander in the first inning. Verlander settled down, and pitched through the seventh. Justin Wilson tossed a perfect ninth for the save.

Moya

The Tigers host the Royals again tonight. Daniel Norris will start against Ian Kennedy. Pregame coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Tigers have demoted outfielder Steven Moya to Double-A Erie. Moya played 31 games with Detroit last season, but has struggled badly this year. He was hitting just .166 at Toledo. Outfielder Jim Adduci will take his spot on the Mud Hens roster, as he begins a rehab assignment after missing six weeks because of an oblique injury.

Guerra

The Cincinnati Reds slammed four home runs off Junior Guerra, and outslugged the Milwaukee Brewers 8-6 last evening. Guerra didn’t last through the fifth inning, and was charged with all eight Cincy runs. Manny Piña, Orlando Arcia and Travis Shaw homered for the Crew.

Braun

That series continues in Cincinnati this evening. Chase Anderson will pitch against Luis Castillo.

Ryan Braun and Jonathan Villar returned from the disabled list for last night’s game. Nick Franklin was designated for assignment to make room for Villar. Braun took the space created when Lewis Brinson was optioned to Triple-A Colorado Springs over the weekend.

Former Brewer Corey Hart will officially retire from baseball at Friday’s game in Milwaukee. He’ll sign a one-day contract with the Brewers, and be added to the team’s Wall of Honor.
