Stevens Scores as Michigan Seniors Advance at NIT – Sunday Sports Wrap

Youth Hockey

The Team Michigan squads split yesterday’s games at the High School National Invitational Tournament in Minnesota…
• The Juniors lost 3-0 to the Minnesota Seniors. With a pool play record of 1-2, the Michigan Juniors fell short of making the playoff field.
• The Seniors defeated the Wisconsin Seniors 5-3. Howell’s Jack L’Esperance had two more goals, and Houghton’s Landon Stevens found the net once. The Michigan Seniors finish as the only undefeated team in pool play, and open the playoff section of the tournament with a rematch against the Wisconsin Seniors this morning at 10:15 Eastern Time.

In NBA Tournament first round games yesterday…

In the Eastern Conference…
• The 76ers dispatched the Nets 96-88. Philadelphia advances with a 4-0 series win.
• The Heat routed the Buycks 121-99. Miami leads that series 2-1.

In the Western Conference…
• The Suns got past the Clippers 112-100. Phoenix leads that set 3-1.
• The Lakers downed the Grizzlies 111-101. L-A leads that series 2-1.

• The Knicks welcome the Cavaliers. New York leads that series 2-1.
• The Celtics visit the Hawks, Boston leads that set 2-1.

In NHL opening round playoff games yesterday…

• The Maple Leafs shaded the Lightning 4-3 in overtime. Toronto leads that series 2-1.
• The Devils slipped past the Rangers 2-1 in overtime. New York leads that series 2-1.

• The Golden Knights got past the Jets 5-4 in double overtime. Vegan takes a 2-1 lead in that series.
• The Avalanche outscored the Kraken 6-4. Colorado leads that set 2-1.

• The Hurricanes visit the Islanders. Carolina is up 2-1 in that set.
• The Panthers welcome the Bruins. Boston leads that series 2-1.

In the Western Conference…
• The Wild entertain the Stars. Minnesota leads that set 2-1.

MLB

Zach McKinstry’s home run was one of just two hits the Tigers collected in a 5-1 loss to the Orioles last evening. Joey Wentz gave up all five Baltimore runs over four innings, and took the loss.

The Tigers visit the Orioles again today. Eduardo Rodriguez will start against Grayson Rodriguez. Coverage will begin at 1:10 on 99.3 The Lift.

Reliever Trey Wingenter has been placed on the injured list with tendinitis in his shoulder. Will Vest has been called up from Toledo to fill in.

The Brewers held off the Red Sox 5-4 last evening. Rowdy Tellez homered for Milwaukee, and Willy Adames had three hits. Wade Miley allowed two runs over five innings, and got the win.

The Brewers entertain the Sox again today. Corbin Burnes will start against Brayan Bello.
