Swoyer, Pietila Honored by WCHA – Tuesday Sports Wrap

MTU

Two Michigan Tech hockey players have been honored by the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. Colin Swoyer was named Defenseman of the Week. He had two assists in the Huskies’ shutout of Bemidji State Sunday. Blake Pietila was named Goaltender of the Week. He stopped 31 shots Sunday, and earned his first college shutout.

MLB

The Detroit Tigers added some bullpen depth yesterday by signing Ian Krol to a minor league contract. Krol pitched for Detroit in 2014 and 2015. Since then, he’s bounced between the majors and minors with the Braves, Mets, Angels and Reds.

NFL

In last night’s NFL contest, Justin Tucker’s 55-yard field goal with seven seconds remaining broke the tie and the Baltimore Ravens went on to claim a wild 47-42 victory over the Cleveland Browns. The additional two points in the margin came on the final play of the game, when the Browns lined up at their own 25-yard line. They fumbled, recovered, and a series of lateral passes eventually forced them backward to a safety.

Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford has no broken ribs, following the hit that forced him from Sunday’s loss to the Packers. Interim head coach Darrell Bevell said yesterday that they won’t know until late this week if Stafford will be able to play this week against the Titans.
