Team CC Defeats Marquette – Thursday Sports Wrap

The Texas Rangers scored four runs in the third inning, and beat the Detroit Tigers 6-2 last night. Matt Boyd was chased from the game in that third inning, was charged with all six Texas runs, and took the loss. Details are here.

The Tigers have today off, and will open their final series of the season tomorrow night against the White Sox in Chicago. Alfredo Simon will make what could be his final start for the Tigers. He’ll be a free agent. Chris Sale will pitch for the Sox. Hear the first pitch at 8:10 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

The Milwaukee Brewers scored all their runs in the sixth inning, and shut out the San Diego Padres 5-0 last night. Zach Davies gave up just five hits over seven innings to get the win. Details are here.

The Team Copper Country U18 hockey squad defeated the Marquette U18 team 4-1 last night in Marquette. Dawson McKay, Reid Pietila, and Lance Kangas scored, and Riley McKay added an empty netter. Ian Carroll was in net.

MTU hockey co-captain Alex Petan has been selected as a preseason All-American by the College Hockey News.

The Detroit Red Wings pounded the Pittsburgh Penguins 7-2 last night. Andreas Athanasiou scored twice for Detroit, and added an assist. Petr Mrazek made 38 saves. Details are here. The Wings host the Maple Leafs in preseason action tomorrow night.

Little Huskies Hoops Camp Next Week
The Michigan Tech men’s basketball team will host the Little Huskies basketball camp for boys beginning Monday. The camp runs from 4:00 to 6:00 each afternoon next week. It’s for boys in grades three through eight. Sign your kids up at the SDC ticket office.
