Tech Hockey Falls at LSSU – Monday Sports Wrap

MTU

The Michigan Tech hockey team opened its 100th season with a loss and a tie over the weekend. In Saturday’s scoreless game against Lake Superior State, Mark Sinclair stopped 21 shots in his Tech debut between the pipes. Mareks Mitens turned away 28 shots for the Lakers. LSSU earned the bonus WCHA standings point by winning the postgame shootout.

Yesterday, the Lakers scored three times in the third period, and pulled away to a 4-1 victory. Eric Gotz netted the Huskies’ only goal in the second period. Sinclair again stopped 21 shots, and took the loss.

NBA

After failing to land Bogdan Bogdanovich at the start of the free agent signing period, the Bucks signed four players over the weekend. On Saturday, the agreed to terms with guard D.J. Augustin and forward Bobby Portis. Yesterday, they reportedly reached deals with guard Bryn Forbes and forward Torrey Craig.

The Pistons’ rebuild continued over the weekend. Detroit traded center Tony Bradley to the 76ers in exchange for forward Zhaire Smith. Smith was the 16th pick in the 2018 draft, but his career has been slowed by injuries.

NFL

The punchless Lions were shut out by the Panthers 20-0 yesterday. Playing with an injured throwing hand, Matthew Stafford completed just 18 passes for 178 yards. Without starter D’Andre Swift, the Detroit rushing attack was held to only 40 yards. It was Detroit’s first shutout in more than a decade.

The Packers couldn’t hold a 14-point halftime lead, and lost 34-31 in overtime to the Colts. Green Bay forced the extra period with a 26-yard Mason Crosby field goal with only seconds remaining in the fourth quarter. The Packers got the ball to start overtime, but fumbled it away on their second play, and Indianapolis kicked a 39-yard field goal to secure the win.

Patrick Mahomes’ second touchdown pass of the night with 28 seconds remaining lifted the Chiefs to a 35-31 victory over the Raiders in last night’s contest.

Tonight, the Buccaneers host the Rams. Hear the game on 99.3 The Lift.
