Tech Hoops Teams Sweep LSSU – Friday Sports Wrap

High School

In high school boys basketball last night…
• Houghton got past L’Anse 64-57.
• Dollar Bay-Tamarack City pounded Hancock 60-34.
• Lake Linden-Hubbell routed Baraga 77-37. Marcus Sutherland led the Lakes with 16 points. Mason Holzberger added 14, and Gabe Popko and Hunter Moyle each scored 12.
• Ewen-Trout Creek outscored Ironwood 66-34.

On the boys schedule tonight…
• Calumet journeys to Iron Mountain.
• Jeffers plays at Baraga, in a game that was rescheduled from Monday night.
• Ontonagon plays at Wakefield-Marenisco.

In girls hoops action last night…
• Hancock smothered Chassell 51-18. Eleven Bulldogs scored in the game, led by Isabella Hebert with 12 points. Paris Olson scored nine for the Panthers.
• Ewen-Trout Creek outscored Ironwood 54-31.

In girls play this evening…
• Houghton travels to Negaunee.
• Calumet heads to West Iron County.
• Lake Linden-Hubbell hosts Baraga.
• Dollar Bay-Tamarack City tips off at Chassell.
• Jeffers visits Bessemer.
• Ontonagon plays at Wakefield-Marenisco.

College Hockey

The Michigan Tech hockey team hosts Saint Thomas tonight at 7:07, and tomorrow at 6:07.

The Northern Michigan hockey team hosts Lake Superior State tonight and tomorrow.

Both Finlandia hockey teams are off until after the holidays.

College Basketball

Both Michigan Tech basketball teams earned wins over Lake Superior State last night…
• The women pounded the Lakers 92-51. Alex Rondorf led the Huskies with a career-best 19 points.
• The men pulled out a 70-64 victory. Owen White scored 17 points.

Both Tech teams host Ferris State tomorrow. The women tip off at noon, and the men at 2:00.

Tomorrow is the annual Tadych’s Marketplace Kids Day at Michigan Tech. Tadych’s has purchased 500 youth tickets that will admit children ages 14 and under to both basketball games and the hockey game. Tickets will be given away at the Tadych’s service counter on a first-come, first-served basis beginning today at noon. There is a limit of four per customer.

Both Northern Michigan teams lost to Ferris State last night…
• The women dropped a 68-66 overtime thriller.
• The men fell 76-63.

Both Wildcats teams welcome Lake Superior State tomorrow.

Both Finlandia basketball teams host Great Lakes Christian tomorrow – the women at 1:00, and the men at 3:00.

Adult Hockey

In Great Lakes Hockey League action this weekend…
• The Portage Lake Pioneers host the Marquette Mutineers tonight at 7:30.
• The Calumet Wolverines have the weekend off.

The Copper Country Old-Timers Hockey Tournament will be back this winter, after missing the past two years because of COVID-19 concerns. Organizers have scheduled the event for March 17th through 20th. Team registrations are being accepted now. NBA

The Detroit Pistons visit the New Orleans Pelicans tonight.

NHL

The Detroit Red Wings lost to the Saint Louis Blues 6-2 last night. Robby Fabbri scored both Detroit goals. Alex Nedeljkovic gave up four tallies over the first two periods, before giving way to Thomas Greiss.

The Wings visit the Colorado Avalanche tonight. Coverage will begin at 8:45 on 99.3 The Lift. 

NFL

In last night’s game, the Minnesota Vikings opened up a 29-point lead, then held off the Pittsburgh Steelers 36-28.

On Sunday…
• The Detroit Lions visit the Denver Broncos for a 4:05 game.
• The Green Bay Packers host the Chicago Bears in the evening contest.
