• Jeffers will face Medford in the opening game of the Merrill Tournament in Wisconsin.

• Jeffers dispatched Ironwood 72-44.

• Baraga v Watersmeet – postponed – no make-up date announced.

In girls action…
• Houghton smothered Chassell 70-8.
• Lake Linden-Hubbell v Ewen-Trout Creek – postponed to February 9th.

On the boys schedule tonight…
• Houghton plays at Dollar Bay-Tamarack City.
• Calumet travels to West Iron County.

On the girls schedule this evening…
• Houghton welcomes Westwood.
• Calumet travels to Marquette.
• Hancock hosts Escanaba.
• Jeffers journeys to Ironwood.
• L’Anse tips off at Bessemer.
• Chassell visits Ontonagon.

In high school swimming tomorrow…
• Houghton competes at the Marquette Splash-n-Dash.

College Basketball

Both Michigan Tech basketball teams earned victories over Wayne State last night…
• The women’s team rode a late surge past the Warriors 66-60. Alex Rondorf scored 21 points.
• Adam Hobson scored 17 points as the men’s team claimed a 62-51 victory. Owen White added 15 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.

The Huskies men’s team plays at Saginaw Valley State tomorrow. The women’s contest has been postponed because of COVID-19 issues with the Cardinals.

That COVID-19 problem also canceled the Northern Michigan women’s game at SVSU last night. The NMU men’s team suffered a tough 87-85 loss to the Cardinals.

Both Northern teams visit Wayne State tomorrow.

Both Finlandia basketball teams have the weekend off.

College Hockey

The Michigan Tech hockey team skates at Lake Superior State tonight and tomorrow.

The Northern hockey team welcomes Minnesota State tonight and tomorrow.

The Finlandia University men’s hockey team hosts Adrian College tonight at 7:15, and tomorrow at 2:00. Pregame coverage for tonight’s contest will begin at 6:55 on 99.3 The Lift. Because of NFL football on The Lift, tomorrow’s Lions game will begin at 1:40 on KBear 102.3.

The Finlandia women’s hockey team’s games at Trine University have been postponed.

GLHL

The Calumet Wolverines visit the Mosinee Papermakers tonight.

The Portage Lake Pioneers skate at Mosinee tomorrow night.

NHL

The Detroit Red Wings fell to the Winnipeg Jets 3-0 last night. Alex Nedeljkovic took the loss in net.

The Wings have dropped four straight, and host the Buffalo Sabres tomorrow.

Detroit captain Dylan Larkin has been named to the NHL All-Star Team.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons will host the Toronto Raptors tonight.

Detroit’s trade with Denver for forward Bol Bol has fallen apart. The Pistons backed out after finding a problem during Bol’s physical.

NHL

The NFL playoffs begin with the Wildcard Round this weekend…
• Tomorrow, the Las Vegas Raiders visit the Cincinnati Bengals at 4:30, and the Buffalo Bills host the new England Patriots at 8:15.
• Sunday, the Philadelphia Eagles visit the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at 1:00. The Dallas Cowboys entertain the San Francisco 49ers at 4:30. The Kansas City Chiefs welcome the Pittsburgh Steelers at 8:15.
• Monday, the Arizona Cardinals visit the Los Angeles Rams.
