Tech Men Win GLIAC Hoops Title, Advance to NCAA Tourney

Western Collegiate Hockey Association

The Michigan Tech hockey team will play at top-seeded Minnesota State in the best-of-three semifinal series beginning Friday night. Bowling Green plays at Bemidji State in the other semifinal.

Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference

The Michigan Tech men’s basketball team defeated Northwood 68-57 to win the GLIAC tournament title yesterday. Kyle Monroe paced the Huskies with 31 points. Monroe was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. Owen White joined him on the All-Tournament Team.

The Huskies have been seeded fourth in the Midwest Region of the NCAA tournament. They will open against fifth-seed Bellarmine University Saturday evening at 7:30 in Indianapolis.

NHL

The Detroit Red Wings won their second-straight game yesterday, edging the Tampa Bay Lightning 5-4 in a shootout. Robby Fabbri, Dylan Larkin, Anthony Mantha and Tyler Bertuzzi scored during regulation. Larkin and Fabbri found the net in the shootout. Jonathan Bernier stopped 33 shots.

The Wings host the Carolina Hurricanes tomorrow. Coverage begins at 7:10 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons lost 96-84 to the New York Knicks last night. Christian Wood led Detroit with 22 points.

The Pistons visit the Philadelphia 76ers Wednesday. Coverage starts at 6:35 on 99.3 The Lift.

MLB

In spring baseball yesterday, the Detroit Tigers scored three runs in the ninth inning, and defeated the Washington Nationals 7-5. Starter Jordan Zimmermann threw four scoreless innings. Jordy Mercer homered.

The Tigers play the Houston Astros this afternoon.

Half of the Milwaukee Brewers lost 11-3 to the Oakland Athletics yesterday. Adrian Houser pitched into the fourth inning, and gave up one run. The other half of the Crew defeated the Los Angeles Angels 7-3. Logan Morrison homered.

The Brewers play the Seattle Mariners tonight.

Calumet faces Westwood in the girls regional semifinals tomorrow at Marquette. Our broadcast will begin at 5:40 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.
