In high school hockey last night, Houghton scored four times in the first 10 minutes to cruise to its twelfth victory off the season, with a 7-3 win over Kingsford. Jonathon Bostwick had two goals, and Reid Pietila had three points for the Gremlins.

– L’Anse visits Menominee.

– Calumet plays at Kingsford.
– Hancock entertains Marquette. Face-off is at noon at the Houghton County Arena.

In girls’ high school basketball last night…
– Hancock got past Lake Linden-Hubbell 34-29.
– Jeffers defeated Republic-Michigamme 42-22.
– Chassell fell at Watersmeet 64-51.
– Baraga shut down L’Anse 32-17.
– Dollar Bay lost at Ontonagon 47-38.
– Ewen-Trout Creek lost at Bessemer 39-24.

MTU Hoops Sweeps Northwood
Both Michigan Tech basketball teams defeated Northwood last evening. The women’s squad nearly squandered a 13-point second half lead, but recovered to claim a 68-63 victory. The Timberwolves closed the gap to two points, but Tech sealed the win with some late free throws. Danielle Blake led the Huskies with 15 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists.

The Tech men’s team held Northwood to just 17 points in the first half, and cruised to a 65-54 victory. Jordan Chartier scored a career-high 23 points. Kyle Stankowski grabbed 10 rebounds.

Both Tech teams entertain Lake Superior State tomorrow. The women’s game begins at 1:00, and the men’s contest at 3:00, at the SDC.

The Michigan Tech hockey team entertains Alabama-Huntsville tonight and tomorrow night. Face-offs are at 7:07 at MacInnes Arena.

NMU Splits with LSSU
NMU Athletics LogoThe Northern Michigan women’s team edged Lake Superior State 69-64 last night. Alyssa Colla scored a career-best 33 points. The Wildcats men’s team fell to the Lakers 60-48.

Both Northern teams host Northwood tomorrow afternoon.

The Northern Michigan hockey team entertains Alaska tonight and tomorrow night.

Finlandia
Finlandia Lions New LogoThe Finlandia men’s hockey team visits the Milwaukee School of Engineering tonight and tomorrow afternoon.

The Lions’ women’s hockey team entertains Lake Forest College tonight at 7:15 at the Houghton County Arena. The Lady Lions will entertain Adrian College tomorrow afternoon at 3:00.

The Finlandia men’s basketball team hosts Wisconsin-Marinette tomorrow afternoon. Tip-off is at 2:00 at the Paavo Nurmi Center.

Pioneers-Wolverines FeatureGLHL
The Calumet Wolverines entertain the Monroe Blues tonight at 7:30 at the Colosseum. The Wolverines will skate at Eagle River tomorrow night.

The Portage Lake Pioneers host the Monroe Blues tomorrow night at 7:30 at Dee Stadium.

Red Wings LogoNHL – Red Wings Struck by Lightning
Cedric Pacquette’s hat trick led the Tampa Bay Lightning to a 5-1 victory over the Red Wings last night. Goalie Petr Mrazek was pulled after the second period. Tom McCollum stopped all 17 shots he faced in the final period. The loss snapped Detroit’s six-game winning streak. The Wings host the Islanders tomorrow afternoon. Faceoff is at 2:00 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.

NBA – Pistons Prepare for Rockets
The Pistons host the Rockets tomorrow night. Tip-off is at 7:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.
