Tech V’ball Sweeps NMU – Wednesday Sports Wrap

MLB – Tigers Fall, Brewers Win
J.D. Martinez hit his 38th homer of the season, but the Detroit Tigers lost to the Texas Rangers 7-6 last night. Daniel Norris gave up five runs in the first, and another before leaving in the second. The Tigers came back to tie the game in the third, but Buck Farmer gave up the final run of the game in the fourth inning, and took the loss. Details are here.

The Tigers wrap up that series at Texas tonight. Matt Boyd will start against Yovani Gallardo. Hear the first pitch at 8:05 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

Jorge Lopez earned the win in his major league debut, as the Milwaukee Brewers edged the San Diego Padres 4-3 last night. Lopez gave up three runs over five innings, and struck out seven. Jean Segura’s two-run homer in the top of the sixth was the game-winner. That series continues tonight. Zach Davies will pitch against Andrew Cashner.

The Michigan Tech volleyball team swept Northern Michigan 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-23) last night. It’s the first win for the Huskies in Marquette since 2001. Details are here.

Houghton Half-n-Dash Saturday
Houghton Half-n-Dash LogoThe first Houghton Half-n-Dash will be held Saturday. Races will include a half marathon run and a 5k walk/run. The half will go from Dee Stadium and run west along the waterfront trail to the Houghton Canal, turn around at the Kenner Dome, and then finish back at the Dee. The 5k will start at Dee Stadium and run 2.5k west, and then back to the Dee.

Proceeds for this year’s race will go to DDIY, a non-profit that provides financial assistance to Copper Country residents facing health-related expenses. The registration deadline is tomorrow. For more details, click here. To sign up, click here.
