College Soccer

The Tech soccer team played to a 1-1 draw with Minnesota-Duluth yesterday. The Bulldogs scored early on a penalty kick. Brooke Green’s first goal as a Husky in the 66th minute forced the tie. Gracie VanLangevelde faced only two shots on goal.

The Northern Michigan women’s soccer team blanked Saint Cloud State 3-0 yesterday.

The NMU men’s soccer team hosts Quincy today.

MLB

The Tigers pounded out 18 hits, and pasted the White Sox 10-0 last night. Reese Olson turned in his finest start as a Tiger, scattering four hits over seven shutout innings. Miguel Cabrera had four hits, and moved past George Brett into 17th place on the MLB career hit list. Spencer Torkelson, Akil Baddoo and Kerry Carpenter each had three hits, and Andre Lipcius belted a home run in his major league debut.

The Tigers visit the White Sox again this afternoon. Tarik Skubal will start against Michael Kopech. Coverage will begin at 1:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

Detroit may have to finish the season without Riley Greene. Greene hurt his elbow while making a diving catch in Friday’s game. The resulting inflammation has sent him to the injured list. Tyler Nevin has been called up.

The Brewers built a big lead, and held off the Phillies 7-5 yesterday. Carlos Santana homered, and Andruw Monasterio had three hits.

The Brewers host the Phillies again today. Wade Miley will start against Ranger Suarez.

Colin Rea was called up from Nashville to start last night’s game. J.B. Bukauskas was sent down to make room.

The Cubs lost to the Reds again, so Milwaukee’s lead in the National League Central Division stands at four and a half games over Chicago, and six and a half over Cincinnati.
