College Football

Michigan Tech quarterback Will Ark has been named Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week for football. Ark threw for 340 yards and three touchdowns in the Huskies’ 35-34 homecoming win over Wayne State Saturday.

Tech’s Carissa Beyer has been honored as the GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week for volleyball. Beyer tallied 59 digs as the Huskies earned wins over Saginaw Valley State and Wayne State.

NHL

The Red Wings open regular-season play at home against the Canadiens on Friday. Coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

Barring last-minute signings or injuries, the Wings’ opening-day roster is set. Rookie forward Elmer Söderblom is on it. Givani Smith and Taro Hirose were among those assigned to the Grand Rapids Griffins. Robby Fabbri is among those on the injured list, as he continues his recovery from knee surgery.
