Tigers Blast Royals, Brewers Win Walkoff – Sunday Sports Wrap

MLB
The Detroit Tigers pounded the Kansas City Royals 12-4 yesterday. Nicholas Castellanos homered and drive in three runs. JaCoby Jones also homered. José Iglesias had three hits and scored twice. Mike Fiers allowed all four KC runs on 10 hits while pitching into the sixth inning, but was good enough to get the win.

The Tigers will host the Royals again today. Francisco Liriano will pitch against Eric Skoglund. Pregame coverage will begin at 12:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

Jesús Aguilar’s home run in the bottom of the ninth inning lifted the Milwaukee Brewers to a 6-5 last night victory over the Miami Marlins last night. With two strikes in the count, Aguilar fouled off seven pitches before blasting  Junichi Tazawa’s 13th offering over the wall. The blast completed a Milwaukee comeback, after the Marlins scored four times off starter Brent Suter in the first two innings. Travis Shaw also homered, and scored three times.

The Brewers host the Marlins again today. Junior Guerra will pitch against Caleb Smith.

NHL
In NHL playoff action yesterday…
– Tampa Bay moved into the second round by defeating New Jersey 3-1. The Lightning won that series 4-1.
– Washington edged Columbus 4-3 in overtime. The Capitals lead that series 3-2.
– Toronto edged Boston 4-3. The Bruins lead that set 3-2.

Today…
– Pittsburgh skates at Philadelphia. The Penguins lead that series 3-2.
– Nashville visits Colorado. The Predators are up 3-2 in that set.

NBA
In the NBA playoffs yesterday…
– New Orleans advanced to the second round with a 131-123 victory over Portland. The Pelicans swept that series 4-0.
– Philadelphia got past Miami 106-102. The 76ers lead that series 3-1.
– Minnesota defeated Houston 121-105. The Rockets lead that set 2-1.
– Utah downed Oklahoma City 115-102. The Jazz lead that series 2-1.

Today…
– Boston plays at Milwaukee. The Celtics lead that series 2-1.
– Golden State plays at San Antonio. The Warriors are up 3-0 in that series.
– Toronto tips off at Washington. The Raptors lead that set 2-1.
– Cleveland plays at Indiana. The Pacers hold a 2-1 lead in that series.
