MLB
The Detroit Tigers snapped their four-game losing streak with a 5-3 victory over the Houston Astros last night. The Astros scored twice off Matthew Boyd in the first inning, but Boyd settled down, and allowed only one more run before leaving in the eighth. The Tigers took the lead with a three-run seventh inning. José Iglesias had two RBI doubles to lead the offense.

The Tigers host the Astros again this afternoon. Justin Verlander will start against Lance McCullers Jr. Pregame coverage begins at 12:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

Detroit outfielder Alex Presley has been placed on the 10-day disabled list with a side injury. Jim Adduci has been called up from Toledo to fill in.

Jason Heyward’s home run off Jared Hughes in the top of the 11th inning lifted the Chicago Cubs to a 2-1 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers last night. Milwaukee’s only score came in the first inning, when Ryan Braun doubled home Eric Thames. Brewers’ starter Junior Guerra didn’t give up a run, but was so wild he was pulled after the third inning. Rookie Josh Hader followed with three scoreless innings, in which he struck out six. Jacob Barnes gave up the tying run in the ninth.

The loss drops the Brewers two-and-a-half games behind the first place Cubs in the National League Central Division. Those teams play in Milwaukee again today. Zach Davies will pitch against John Lackey.

The Brewers designated struggling pitcher Wily Peralta for assignment yesterday. Peralta won 17 games in 2014, but had struggled the past two seasons. If he clears waivers, he could become a free agent, or accept a minor league assignment with Milwaukee. The Brewers brought outfielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis up from Colorado Springs to fill the roster spot.

NFL
Detroit Lions defensive end Ezekiel Ansah will start training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list. The team made the announcement yesterday. They did not specify what injury Ansah is dealing with. He was hobbled by a bad ankle most of last season.
