Tigers, Brewers Fall – Monday Sports Wrap

MLB

Daniel Norris was hit hard, as the Detroit Tigers lost to the Kansas City Royals 10-2 yesterday. Norris lasted just three innings. He gave up three home runs, and was charged with four runs. Drew VerHagen gave up two runs in five innings of relief. The Royals scored four more off Tyler Alexander and Nick Ramirez in the ninth. Niko Goodrum homered for Detroit.

The Tigers have today off, and host the Seattle Mariners tomorrow night. Matthew Boyd will start against Yusei Kikuchi. Pregame coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift. 

Detroit has called infielder Ronny Rodriguez up from Toledo. He fills the roster opening created when JaCoby Jones was placed on the injured list because of a broken wrist.

The Milwaukee Brewers’ five-game winning streak ended with a 1-0 loss to the Texas Rangers yesterday. Each team collected just four hits. Jordan Lyles took the tough loss when Texas scored the only run of the game on a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning.

The Brewers also have today off, and will host the Minnesota Twins tomorrow night. Chase Anderson will start against Martín Pérez.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons have signed forward Michael Beasley. It’s a one-year contract that will only become guaranteed if he makes the opening-day roster. Beasley is coming off a troubled season. He was traded by the Los Angeles Lakers to the Clippers midway through; then cut by the Clippers He finished the season with a team in China. Beasley also faces a five-game suspension to open the season because of a failed drug test.

Horseshoes

The semifinals of the Copper Country Horseshoe League tournament will be played this evening…
– Top seed Calumet One will face fourth seed Harter’s Party Store at the Drift Inn.
– Second seed Dreamland One will play third seed L and L at Rocky’s Bar.

The Copper Country Twilight Baseball League championship series will begin tomorrow night. Broadcast coverage will start at 6:15 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.
