Tigers, Brewers Fall – Wednesday Sports Wrap

MLB

The Detroit Tigers fell behind early, and lost to the Texas Rangers 5-3 last night. Jordan Zimmermann gave up two runs in the first inning, and another in the third. He completed five frames, and allowed nine hits. Ronny Rodriguez hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth to make the score close.

The Tigers host the Rangers again tonight. Matthew Boyd will start against Mike Minor. Because of College World Series coverage on 99.3 The Lift, tonight’s pregame show will begin at 6:45 on KBear 102.3.

Zach Davies struggled, as the Milwaukee Brewers dropped an 8-3 decision to the Seattle Mariners last evening. Davies gave up six runs over four innings. Yasmani Grandal homered.

The Brewers will entertain the Mariners again tonight. Adrian Houser will come out of the bullpen to start for Milwaukee.

College World Series

Vanderbilt University defeated the University of Michigan 4-1 last night, to tie the College World Series at one win per team. The deciding game three will be played tonight at 7:00. Hear the broadcast on 99.3 The Lift.

Twilight League Baseball

In Copper Country Twilight League baseball play last night…
– Dean Kangas-State Farm defeated REL-Mohawk Technology 4-2.
Superior National Bank-Stanton shut out 11-0.

Fast Pitch Softball

In Copper Country Fast Pitch Softball League play tonight, Northern Michigan Land Brokers meets Coca-Cola of Hancock in a doubleheader at the Chassell Field.

Slow Pitch Softball

In Copper Country Slow Pitch Softball League action this evening…
– At Miller Memorial Field in Laurium, Bucko’s/Labatt’s takes on A and S Industrial at 6:15, and then plays Pat’s Foods/Bucko’s at 7:30.
– At Hurontown, Lake Superior Design faces Downtowner Two at 6:15, and Coca Cola/Monte Carlo at 7:30.
– At the Hancock Driving Park, Koppers plays Auto Pro/ThermoAnalytics at 6:15, and Luigi’s at 7:30.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons have signed former Oregon forward Louis King to a two-way deal. King entered the recent draft after his freshman year. He was expected to be a second-round pick, but was not selected. The two-way contract allows the Pistons to keep him on their roster, or assign him to the Grand Rapids Drive.

Finlandia

The Finlandia University men’s soccer team has added another recruit. Robert Reece was a four-year starter at Northwest High School in Clarksville, Tennessee.

NMU

Northern Michigan University will introduce its new head basketball coach this morning. A press conference has been scheduled at 9:00.

In Copper Country Horseshoe League action…
– Harter’s Party Store edged Dreamland One 5-4.
– Drift Inn defeated 41 Lumber 6-3.
– Rocky’s shut down Loading Zone 8-1.
– L and L stopped Bucko’s Party store 8-1.
– Calumet One defeated Dreamland Two 8-1.
– Calumet Electronics downed Ahmeek Fire Department 6-3.
