MLB

The Detroit Tigers couldn’t hold a one-run lead, and fell to the Minnesota Twins 4-3 yesterday. Miguel Cabrera put Detroit on the board with a solo home run in the first inning. After Jordan Zimmermann surrendered a two-run homer in the second, Detroit surged ahead in the fourth with an RBI single by Travis Demeritte, and a Victor Reyes sacrifice fly. The advantage held until the eighth, when the Twins scored twice off Buck Farmer. Zimmermann pitched six innings, and gave up nine hits, but only two runs.

The Tigers visit the Kansas City Royals tonight. Daniel Norris will start against Mike Montgomery. Pregame coverage will begin at 7:50 on 99.3 The Lift.

The September roster expansion has brought some familiar names back to the Tigers. Left fielder Christin Stewart, third baseman Jeimer Candelario and catcher Grayson Greiner were brought up yesterday. Tyler Alexander, Daniel Stumpf and Zac Reininger were added to pitching staff, along with relievers Bryan Garcia and John Schreiber, who were called up on Sunday.

The Tigers are mourning the death of minor-league catcher Chace Numata. Numata was killed in a skateboarding accident in Erie on Friday.

George Springer’s home run off Junior Guerra in the top of the 10th inning gave the Houston Astros a 3-2 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers yesterday. Milwaukee had forced the extra frame when Christian Yelich led off the bottom of the ninth with his 43rd home run of the season. Yasmani Grandal also homered.

The Brewers wrap up that quick interleague set tonight. Jordan Lyles will start against Zack Greinke.

The Brewers called up veteran catcher David Freitas and first baseman Tyler Austin to stock their expanded roster. They also added pitchers Jake Faria, Freddy Peralta, Jimmy Nelson and Brent Suter, who is recovering from Tommy John surgery.
