MLB
Niko Goodrum’s triple and José Iglesias’ sacrifice fly in the top of the 10th inning lifted the Detroit Tigers to a 3-2 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays yesterday. The extra-inning run salvaged a great pitching effort by Mike Fiers, who turned in eight innings, and gave up a run on just three hits. He left with a 2-1 lead. The Jays tied the game in the ninth on a bases-loaded walk from Joe Jiménez. Ironically, Jiménez got the win. Buck Farmer gave up a lead-off single in the bottom of the 10th, before Blaine Hardy came in to retire three straight and earn the save.

The Tigers begin an interleague series against the Cubs in Chicago this afternoon. Michael Fulmer will pitch against Kyle Hendricks. Pregame coverage will begin at 1:55 on 99.3 The Lift.

Jiménez was sent out to close the game because Shane Greene is hurt. Greene was placed on the disabled list with a right shoulder strain. Reliever Daniel Stumpf was brought back from the disabled list to replace him. The Tigers also called up outfielder Mikie Mahtook to fill in for the injured Leonys Martín. And, they called up Jim Adduci from the Mud Hens, and sent down catcher Grayson Greiner.

The Milwaukee Brewers used a late comeback to edge the Minnesota Twins 6-5 last night. Travis Shaw’s sacrifice fly tied the game in the bottom of the ninth. Brad Miller drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the 10th to drive home the winning run. Starter Brent Suter struggled through five innings, giving up five runs on nine hits, including a grand slam home run by Robbie Grossman. Manny Piña homered for Milwaukee.

The Brewers host the Twins again this afternoon. Junior Guerra will start against Jake Odorizzi.
