Tigers Can't Hold Early Lead – Thursday Sports Wrap

The Detroit Tigers fell to the Chicago White Sox 5-3 last night. The Sox took a quick 1-0 lead against Mike Pelfrey on a Melkey Cabrera sacrifice fly in the first inning. The Tigers came back with three runs in the third against Chris Sale. Jose Iglesias hit a two-run homer, and Nick Castellanos drove in Ian Kinsler with  single. Chicago responded with single runs in the fourth, fifth, seventh and eighth innings, then held off a Detroit threat in the ninth.

The Tigers open a series in Kansas City tonight. Justin Verlander will pitch against Danny Duffy. Hear the first pitch at 8:15 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

The San Francisco Giants pounded the Milwaukee Brewers 10-1 yesterday afternoon. The Giants put the game away early with four runs in the third inning, and four more in the fourth – all off starter Jimmy Nelson.

The Brewers begin a set against the Dodgers at Los Angeles tonight. Junior Guerra will pitch against Scott Kazmir.

NBA
The NBA championship series between the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers continues tonight. Golden State leads the set three games to two, but will be without center Andrew Bogut. He hurt his knee in Sunday’s game.

Keweenaw Treadfest to Debut Saturday
Keweenaw Treadfest LogoMountain biking will return to Bridgefest weekend this year with the debut of the new Keweenaw Treadfest. The event will be held on the Tech Trails. It will include one- and two-lap races of 12 or 25 miles, with prize money going to the top three men and three women in the two-lap race. Registration will take place at the Tech Trails tomorrow evening from 6:00 until 8:00, and Saturday morning from 8:30 until 11:30. A youth race will start at 10:00 Saturday morning, with the one- and two-lap races beginning at noon. For more details, click here.
