College Softball

The Finlandia University softball team has introduced a new recruit. Femke Van Elsacker is a utility player from Velserbroek, Netherlands.

NBA

Hamidou Diallo will remain with the Detroit Pistons next season. The team picked up his $5.2 million option yesterday. Reports say, though, that the team declined their options on Frank Jackson, Carsen Edwards and Luka Garza.

The Pistons also made an odd trade with the New York Knicks yesterday. Detroit gets center Nerlens Noel, guard Alec Burks, two future second round draft choices, and $6 million in cash. Detroit gives up – nothing. The move opens up salary cap space that New York is expected to use in its pursuit of free agent guard Jalen Brunson.

The NBA free agent signing window opens tomorrow.

MLB

The Tigers’ late comeback fell short, as they lost to the Giants 4-3 last night. Tarik Skubal gave up two runs in the first inning, and left in the fifth as San Francisco scored two more. Detroit scored single runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth.

The Tigers play at San Francisco again this afternoon. Rony Garcia will pitch against Alex Wood. Coverage will begin at 3:25 on 99.3 The Lift.

Austin Meadows’ snake bit season continues. After missing time with an ear infection, vertigo and COVID-19, he’s now been placed on the injured list with Achilles tendon problems in both ankles. There’s no timetable for his return.

The Brewers defeated the Rays 5-3 last night. Brandon Woodruff returned from the injury list, and allowed a run on two hits over five innings, and struck out 10. Andrew McCutcheon and Luis Urías homered, as the Crew scored four runs in the top of the sixth.

Those teams meet again this afternoon in St. Petersburg. Eric Lauer will start against Jalen Beeks.
