In Copper Country Slow Pitch Softball League play last evening…
• Pat’s Foods/Buckos fell to Auto Pro/Thermoanalytics 24-6, then lost to Downtowner Two 15-10.
• McGann’s/Northern Auto defeated Sayen’s Auto/Coca Cola 20-12, then downed A&S Industrial/Loukus Tech 24-5.

Fast Pitch Softball

In Copper Country Women’s Fast Pitch Softball League action last night…
• JB’s defeated Crush/Baby E’s/Diamond House International 7-3. Isabelle Cleary was the winning pitcher. Sarah Audette took the loss. Clea Ollanketo had two home runs for JB’s, and Quinn Donnelly had a double and two singles. Kierstin Codere and Ryleigh Johnson each had a single for Crush.
• Superior Service stopped Tervo Agency 15-4. Josie Connors was the winning pitcher. Mel Baker suffered the loss. Ralli Therrian, Anita Magyer, Shea Donnelly and Cassidy Becia all had hits for Superior Service. Alana Nolan and Becky McCarty had hits for Tervo Agency.

Twilight League Baseball

In Copper Country Twilight League baseball tonight…
• Houghton Building Supply-Stanton faces Garnet Garage at the Stanton Field.

College Soccer

The Finlandia University women’s soccer team has added a new recruit. Ally Herrick is a midfielder from Boyne City.

College Skiing

A former Michigan Tech athlete has been named the head Nordic ski coach at Northern Michigan University. Andy Keller served as associate head coach for the Wildcats this past season, and was their assistant coach for three years before that. He earned four Nordic ski letters and three cross country letters as a Husky before graduating in 2012.

NAHL Hockey

The North American Hockey League has named the participants in its upcoming top prospects tournament. The field will include four teams, with 33 players each. Former Calumet standout Tanner Rowe is a member of Team East. He plays for the Maryland Black Bears.

NBA

In NBA tournament second-round play yesterday…
• The Hawks edged the 76ers 109-106. Atlanta takes a 3-2 lead in that series.
• The Clippers got past the Jazz 119-111. L-A leads that set 3-2.

Tonight…
• The Bucks host the Nets. Brooklyn leads that series 3-2.

NHL

In the Stanley Cup semifinals last evening…
• The Canadiens edged the Golden Knights 3-2. That series is tied 1-1.

Tonight…
• The Islanders entertain the Lightning. That set is tied 1-1.

MLB

The Detroit Tigers completed a series sweep of the Kansas City Royals with a 6-5 victory yesterday. Tarik Skubal gave up three runs over six innings. He got the win when the Tigers scored three times in the top of the seventh – Willi Castro’s two-run homer was the big blow. Michael Fulmer gave up two runs on three hits in the bottom of the ninth, but struck out Salvador Perez to end the game and get the save.

The Tigers open a series against the Angels in Los Angeles tonight. Matt Manning will make his major league debut for Detroit. Shohei Ohtani will counter for L-A. Coverage will begin at 9:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

To open a space for Manning on the roster, Detroit sent reliever Miguel del Pozo back to Toledo.

The Milwaukee Brewers fell to the Cincinnati Reds 2-1 yesterday. Freddy Peralta took the tough loss, turning in seven innings, and giving up two runs on five hits.

The Brewers visit the Colorado Rockies tonight. Brandon Woodruff will start against Germán Márquez.

Milwaukee has claimed pitcher Ryan Weber off waivers from the Boston Red Sox. He’s been assigned to Nashville.

Fishing

The Longest Day Walleye Fishing Tournament will be held Saturday on Lac La Belle. The entry fee is $100 per boat, with a $20 side pot for the biggest fish. Teams can include as many as four people. Registration will be open at the Lac La Belle boat landing tomorrow evening from 5:00 until 8:00, and Saturday morning from 5:20 to 5:50.
