MLB

The Tigers were held to just four hits in a 4-0 loss to the Guardians yesterday.

The Tigers will take today off, and host the Royals tomorrow night. Coverage will begin at 6:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

Before yesterday’s trade deadline, Detroit shipped reliever Andrew Chafin to the Rangers. The Tigers get minor league pitchers Joseph Montalvo and Chase Lee in exchange. Montalvo seems to be the most promising. He’s turned in a decent season at High-A, and is Texas’ 27th-ranked prospect.

At the very last minute, Detroit sent starter Jack Flaherty to the Dodgers. In exchange, the Tigers receive High-A catcher Thayron Liranzo and Triple-A infielder Trey Sweeney. Liranzo is ranked as L-A’s ninth-best prospect. Sweeney is rated as number-22. Flaherty will become a free agent after the season.

Also at the last minute, the Tigers traded outfielder Mark Canha to the Giants. Detroit will get minor-league pitcher Eric Silva in return. Silva is ranked as San Francisco’s 25th-best prospect, and has been playing at the Double A level. Canha will also become a free agent after this season.

The Tigers elected not to trade ace starter Tarik Skubal.

Joe Ross’ return after two months on the sideline with back issues was a rough one, as the Brewers fell to the Braves 5-1 last evening. Ross gave up all five Atlanta runs over five innings. Milwaukee’s only run scored on a single by Gary Sánchez in the seventh inning.

The Brewers welcome the Braves again this afternoon. Freddy Peralta will start against Chris Sale.
