High School

The Spring Swing exhibition softball event at the Superior Dome concluded Saturday.

Only a handful of scores were reported:
9:30 – Lake Linden-Hubbell v Bark River-Harris
11:00 – Houghton cruised past Westwood 10-4. Fayah Zapolnik had three hits, drove in three runs, and scored three times.
11:00 – Hancock downed Menominee 9-5. Sadie Biekkola homered for the Bulldogs.
2:00 – Lake Linden-Hubbell v Hurley
3:30 – Houghton JV v Bonduel JV
5:00 – Houghton JV v Wittenberg-Birnamwood JV
5:00 – Calumet fell to Menominee 6-1.
6:30 – Houghton and Wittenberg-Birnamwood played to a 3-3 tie. Clea Ollenkato homered for the Gremlins.
8:00 – Calumet v Westwood

College Hockey

Denver and Boston University advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Division I hockey tournament with victories Saturday. Today, the other two regional crowns will be decided. Boston College, which eliminated Michigan Tech Friday, will face Quinnipiac. The University of Michigan will take on Michigan State.

GLHL

The Portage Lake Pioneers cruised past the Top Shelf team from Chicago 8-4 Saturday.

The Calumet Wolverines dumped the Marquette Mutineers 13-5 Saturday.

The GLHL tournament takes place next weekend in Fond du Lac. As regular-season league champions, the Pioneers are the top seed, and will open Friday against the eighth-seed Mutineers. The Wolverines are seeded fifth, and will face fourth-seed Eagle River.

NHL

The Red Wings earned a standings point, but fell 3-2 to the Panthers in a shootout Saturday afternoon. Robby Fabbri and Dylan Larkin scored for Detroit. Alex Lyon made 36 saves. With eight regular-season games remaining, the Wings trail the Flyers by two standings points in the race for the final wild card playoff berth.

The Wings visit the Lightning Monday. Coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Pistons welcome the Grizzlies Monday.

MLB

Carson Kelly drove home Mark Canha with the tying run in the seventh inning, and the winning run in the top of the 10th inning, as the Tigers shaded the White Sox 7-6 Saturday. Detroit fell behind early, as Chicago scored six runs off Kenta Maeda before chasing him in the fourth inning. Five relievers held the Sox scoreless for the rest of the game, as the Tigers clawed their way back, with help from homers by Canha and Riley Greene.

Those teams meet in Chicago again this afternoon. Jack Flaherty will face Erick Fedde. Coverage will begin at 1:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Brewers held off the Mets 7-6 Saturday. Rhys Hoskins had three hits, including a home run, and drove in four. New York pitcher Yohan Ramírez threw a pitch behind Hoskins’ head in the seventh inning, and was ejected as New York fans cheered.

Those teams play again this afternoon in New York. Colin Raye will start against Tylor Megill.

NFL

Lions tight end Brock Wright has signed an offer sheet from the 49ers. Wright is a restricted free agent, so Detroit has five days to match the offer, or let him go.
