High School

On the high school baseball schedule today…
• Houghton plays at Iron Mountain.
• Jeffers at Calumet – canceled
• Hancock at Lake Linden-Hubbell – canceled 

In high school softball today…
• Calumet faces Houghton. That game has been moved, and will be played at the Houghton field. Coverage begins at 3:40 on the Voice of the Copper Kings, KBear 102.3.
• Baraga visits Lake Linden-Hubbell.
• L’Anse welcomes Ishpeming.

In track and field…
• Dollar Bay-Tamarack City competes at the Kraemer Invitational in Ironwood.

College Baseball

The Finlandia University baseball team’s doubleheaders at Wisconsin-Eau Claire were postponed again yesterday. The Lions and BluGolds will play two today, and two more tomorrow.

College Softball

The Finlandia softball team was able to get one game in Saturday, and claim one victory for the 2022 season, defeating Gogebic Community College 15-7 at McAfee Field. Shyann Vernam was the winning pitcher, and had four hits and drove in four runs. Alex Berg had four hits and four RBI, and Sarah Moir had three hits and three RBI. The Lions finish their campaign with a record of 1-26.

NHL

The NHL playoffs open tonight.

In the Eastern Conference…
• The Boston Bruins visit the Carolina Hurricanes.
• The Toronto Maple Leafs welcome the Tampa Bay Lightning.

In the Western Conference
• The Saint Louis Blues visit the Minnesota Wild.
• The Edmonton Oilers host the Los Angeles Kings.

NBA

In NBA conference semifinal play yesterday…
• In the Eastern Conference, the Milwaukee Bucks defeated the Boston Celtics 101-89. Milwaukee leads that series 1-0.
• In the Western Conference, the Golden State Warriors edged the Memphis Grizzles 117-116. Golden State takes a 1-0 advantage in that series.

The other conference semifinals open tonight…
• In the Eastern Conference, the Philadelphia 76ers visit the Miami Heat.
• In the Western Conference, the Phoenix Suns host the Dallas Mavericks.

MLB

The Detroit Tigers’ struggles continued with a 6-3 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers yesterday. Eduardo Rodriguez took the loss, giving up six runs on eight hits before leaving in the sixth inning. Miguel Cabrera and Jeimer Candelario hit late-game homers.

Outfielder Robbie Grossman left yesterday’s game after he was hit on the hand by a pitch in the second inning. Initial x-rays showed no broken bones, but he’ll undergo additional tests today.

The Tigers have today off, and begin a home set against the Pittsburgh Pirates tomorrow night. Michael Pineda will start against Bryse Wilson. Coverage will begin at 6:50 on 99.3 The Lift. 

The Milwaukee Brewers got just three hits in a 2-0 loss to the Chicago Cubs yesterday. The power outage wasted a good start by Corbin Burnes, who gave up two runs on four hits over seven innings, and struck out 10.

The Brewers also have today off, and host the Cincinnati Reds tomorrow. Brandon Woodruff will pitch against Vladimir Gutierrez.

Milwaukee has placed reliever Jake Cousins on the injured list with an elbow issue. Catcher Victor Caratini has rejoined the team, after time on the COVID-19 list. Catcher Alex Jackson and infielder Mike Brosseau were sent down to Nashville. Rosters must be reduced from 28 to 26 players by today.
