College Basketball

Connecticut has won the NCAA Division I men’s basketball title for the second straight year, defeating Purdue 75-60 in the tournament championship game last night. It’s the sixth national crown for the Huskies.

NHL

The Penguins lost in overtime to the Maple Leafs last night. The standings point they gained moved them into a virtual tie with the Red Wings for the final Eastern Conference wild card playoff berth. The Capitals and Flyers are each one point back. Detroit and Washington each have five games remaining. Pittsburgh and Philadelphia have four.

The Red Wings entertain the Capitals in a critical matchup tonight. Coverage begins at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Pistons visit the 76ers tonight.

MLB

The Pirates jumped out to an early lead, and defeated the Tigers 7-4 last night. Reese Olson gave up six runs on nine hits before exiting in the fifth inning. Colt Keith and Matt Vierling each had two hits and drove in a run for Detroit.

The Tigers have lost four of their last five games, and wrap up their quick trip to Pittsburgh this afternoon. Casey Mize will start against Martín Pérez. Coverage will start at 12:10 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Tigers have placed Andy Ibáñez on the injured list. He strained a hamstring on the final play of Sunday’s loss to the Athletics. Wenceel Pérez has been brought up from Toledo to fill in.

The Brewers couldn’t overcome an early eight-run deficit, and fell to the Reds 10-8 last evening. Aaron Ashby couldn’t make it through the third inning, and surrendered eight runs on six hits. He was hurt by three Milwaukee errors, leading to four unearned runs. Brice Turang and Christian Yelich homered.

The Brewers visit the Reds again tonight. Joe Ross will pitch against Frankie Montas.
