A five-run third inning powered the Detroit Tigers to a 9-4 victory over the Minnesota Twins last night. All five of those runs came home with two out, on a double by Miguel Cabrera, a single by J.D. Martinez, and a three-run homer by Justin Upton. Cabrera had hit a solo shot in the first inning. The Tigers added three insurance runs in the eighth inning, on RBI singles by Andrew Romine and Cameron Maybin. Matt Boyd gave up three runs over six innings to get the win.

The Tigers wrap up that set in Minnesota this afternoon. Daniel Norris will start against Jose Berrios. Hear the first pitch at 1:10 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

Cleveland lost, so the Tigers now trail the Indians by five and a half games in the American League Central Division.

The Milwaukee Brewers completed a sweep of the Colorado Rockies with a 7-1 victory yesterday afternoon. Zach Davies gave up a solo home run in the first inning, then held the Rockies scoreless through the sixth. Ryan Braun homered twice – a solo shot in the fourth inning, and a two-run blast as the Brewers scored four in the seventh inning to put the game away.

The Brewers begin a home series against the Pirates tonight. Wily Peralta will pitch against Chad Kuhl.

Milwaukee center fielder Ramon Flores cleared waivers, and was assigned to Triple-A Colorado Springs yesterday. Flores had been designated for assignment last Friday.
