MLB
The Detroit Tigers managed only three hits last night, in a 6-2 loss to the Los Angeles Angels. One was a solo home run by Nicholas Castellanos. Matthew Boyd left in the sixth inning, after giving up four runs. The final two came off Louis Coleman in the seventh.

Tigers have lost four in a row, and continue that series against the Angels in Los Angeles tonight. Jacob Turner will start against Andrew Heaney. Pregame coverage begins at 9:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

Turner is starting because the Tigers traded Mike Fiers to the Oakland Athletics yesterday, in exchange for two players to be named later. Fiers cleared waivers to complete the deal. Turner is back with the Tigers after having been signed as a minor league free agent earlier this summer. He was Detroit’s top draft choice in 2009, but was sent to the Miami Marlins in the trade that brought Anibal Sanchez to Detroit. He has struggled in two big-league stints with Miami, as well as the Nationals, Cubs and White Sox.

The Milwaukee Brewers had yesterday off, and host the San Diego Padres tonight. Chase Anderson will pitch against Clayton Richard.

Twilight League
The Copper Country Twilight League playoffs begin tonight, with the first of two semifinal round games.
– Superior National Bank-Stanton meets REL-Mohawk Technologies at the Hancock Driving Park.
– Dean Kangas-State Farm takes on Wolverine-Orbit at the Wolverine Field.
Both games begin at 6:30.

We will broadcast the Twilight League championship series next week on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.

MTU
The Michigan Tech women’s soccer team has been picked to finish sixth in the upcoming Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference season. Coaches chose Grand Valley State to repeat as the champion, with Ashland University second. Northern Michigan tied for seventh place.
