MLB – Tigers Win in 9th
Jose Iglesias’ RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning lifted the Detroit Tigers to a 2-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox Friday afternoon. David Price pitched eight strong innings for Detroit. His only mistake was a second-inning home run ball to former Tiger Avisail Garcia. The Tigers tied the game in the fourth inning, on Yoenis Cespedes’ first homer of the season. The teams traded outs until the bottom of the ninth, when Nick Castellanos hit a sinking liner to right field. Garcia couldn’t handle it, then threw offline to second base. Castellanos slid under the tag, and wound up with a double. Pinch runner Andrew Romine moved to third on Alex Avila’s sacrifice bunt, and scored on Iglesias’ ground ball past the drawn-in infield.

The Tigers host the White Sox again this afternoon. Anibal Sanchez will start against Chris Sale. Hear the first pitch at 1:08 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.

With Justin Verlander still not ready to rejoin the Tigers’ starting rotation, Kyle Lobstein will fill in again on Tuesday. Verlander cut short a simulated game on Wednesday because of shoulder fatigue.

The Milwaukee Brewers’ struggles continued, as they lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-3 Friday night. The Pirates broke open a 1-1 tie with two runs in the fifth, and sealed the victory with a three-run eighth. Jimmy Nelson lasted just five innings, and took the loss.

The Brewers continue that set at Pittsburgh tonight. Kyle Lohse will start against Jeff Locke.

As expected, Milwaukee put centerfielder Carlos Gomez on the disabled list Friday because of his strained right hamstring. Utility player Jason Rogers has been called up from Colorado Springs to fill in. Meanwhile, reliever Jim Henderson has begun a minor league rehab assignment with Brevard County. He’s coming back from shoulder surgery last August.

NHL – Red Wings Face Lightning in Game Two
The Detroit Red Wings will look to take a 2-0 series lead when they play the Lightning at Tampa Bay this afternoon. Petr Mrazek will start in goal again for Detroit. Face-off is at 3:00. We’ll join the game in progress after Tigers’ baseball on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.

MTU Spring Football Game Today
Michigan Tech will play its 2015 spring intrasquad football game this afternoon at 1:00 at Sherman Field. There is no admission charge. Members of Michigan Tech’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will be collecting donations and selling wristbands to support autism awareness.
