Ian Kinsler’s RBI single in the 11th inning lifted the Detroit Tigers to an 8-7 win over the Miami Marlins in their season opener last night. Kinsler’s three-run homer in the first inning had helped the Tigers stake Justin Verlander to a big early lead. Verlander responded by taking a no-hitter into the sixth inning. He also became the first Detroit pitcher to get a hit on opening day since Mickey Lolich in 1972. Miami forced extra inning by scoring three runs off closer Francisco Rodriguez in the ninth. The Tigers wrap up that quick interleague set this afternoon. Anibal Sanchez will pitch against Jose Fernandez. Hear the first pitch at 4:55 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.
