Tigers’ Win Streak Ends – Thursday Sports Wrap

Youth Hockey

The Team Michigan senior and junior squads open play today at the High School National Invitational Tournament in Minnesota.
• The seniors face Colorado this evening at 7:45 Eastern Time.
• The juniors take on North Dakota at 10:00 Eastern Time.

Local members of the senior team include Gab Carlson, Landon Stevens and Cam Markham from Houghton. The junior squad includes Mikey Maillete and Connor Raffaelli from Houghton. New Houghton High School head hockey coach Micah Stipech is one of the coaches for the junior squad.

NBA Tournament first round games continued yesterday.

In the Eastern Conference…
• The Bucks buried the Heat 138-122. That series is tied 1-1.

In the Western Conference…
• The Grizzlies mauled the Lakers 103-93. That series is tied 1-1.
• The Nuggets turned back the Timberwolves 122-113. Denver leads that set 2-0.

• The 76ers visit the Nets. Philly is up 2-0 in that set.

In the Western Conference…
• The Warriors host the Kings. Sacramento leads that series 2-0.
• The Clippers entertain the Suns. That set is tied 1-1.

• The Hurricanes edged the Islanders 4-3 in overtime. Carolina leads that set 2-0.

• The Oilers dumped the Kings 4-2. That set is tied 1-1.

MLB

The Tigers’ five-game winning streak ended with a 3-2 loss to the Guardians yesterday. Spencer Turnbull tossed five scoreless innings, but took the loss after giving up a three-run home run to José Ramírez in the sixth. Spencer Torkelson and Zach McKinstry homered for Detroit.

The Tigers have today off, and visit the Orioles tomorrow. Michael Lorenzen will start against Tyler Wells. Coverage will begin at 6:40 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Brewers completed a series sweep of the Mariners with a 5-3 victory yesterday. Eric Lauer pitches into the eighth, giving up two runs on four hits. All of Milwaukee’s runs came in the seventh inning, on RBI singles by Luke Voit, Brice Turang and Rowdy Tellez.

The Brewers have today off, and entertain the Red Sox tomorrow night. Freddy Peralta will start against Nick Pivetta.

Milwaukee has sent outfielder Garrett Mitchell to the injured list. He hurt his right shoulder sliding into a base during Tuesday’s game. Outfielder Blake Perkins has been called up from Nashville to fill in.
