The Copper Country Twilight Baseball League tournament champion will be crowned today. The result of last evening’s play-in game between the fourth and fifth seeded teams was not reported. Today, the first semifinal begins at 11:00, the second at 1:30, and the title game at 4:00. Our coverage of all of today’s games will begin at 10:50 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.

Eric Haase’s two-run single in the eighth inning lifted the Detroit Tigers to a 6-4 victory over the Cleveland Indians last night. Detroit got off to an early lead, with a two-run Jeimer Candelario homer in the first inning, and RBI singles by Victor Reyes and Zack Short in the second and fourth. Starter Wily Peralta struggled, giving up three runs before leaving in the fifth. José Cisnero gave up the tying run in the seventh. Michael Fulmer earned the win with an inning of scoreless relief, and Gregory Soto claimed his 15th save. Miguel Cabrera had a single, a walk, and was hit by a pitch, as he continues pursuit of his 500th career home run.

The Tigers host Cleveland again this afternoon . Drew Hutchison has been called up from Toledo to make his first league start for the Bengals. Hutchison was the Blue Jays’ opening day starter back in 2015, but hasn’t pitched in the majors since 2018. To make room on the 40-man roster, reliever Buck Farmer was designated for assignment. Triston McKenzie will counter for Cleveland. Coverage will begin at 12:50 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Milwaukee Brewers split their doubleheader against the Pittsburgh Pirates yesterday. The Pirates took the first contest 14-4. Brett Anderson pitched into the fourth inning, and was charged with six runs on eight hits. Justin Topa was torched for five runs in the sixth. Infielder Jace Peterson pitched the seventh, and gave up two runs on three hits. Kolton Wong and Tyrone Taylor homered for Milwaukee.

The Crew rebounded with a 6-0 victory in the nightcap. Aaron Ashby tossed four scoreless innings. Rowdy Tellez and Avisaíl García hit home runs.

The Brewers conclude that set at Pittsburgh this afternoon. Eric Lauer will start against Dillon Peters.

NFL

The Green Bay Packers kicked off their exhibition schedule with a 26-7 loss to the Houston Texans last night. Aaron Rodgers was one of 30 Packers who did not suit up for the game. Jordan Love started at quarterback, and completed 12 of 17 passes for 122 yards. Green Bay was held to 49 yards rushing.

NHL

The Detroit Red Wings have signed the man they believe will be their goaltender of the future. Detroit took Sebastian Cossa with the 15th pick in the recent entry draft. He’s agreed to a three-year rookie contract.
