The Dollar Bay-Tamarack City boys basketball team advanced to the state tournament semifinals with 74-68 victory over Cedarville last night. The Blue Bolts built a 13 point halftime lead, maintained a double-digit advantage through much of the second half, then held off a bit of a late Trojans run to punch their ticket to East Lansing. Devin Schmitz led Dollar Bay with 35 points. The unbeaten Blue Bolts will face top-ranked Southfield Christian tomorrow at 5:30 at the Breslin Center. It’s the first-ever semifinal appearance for Dollar Bay. Buckley and the Hillsdale Academy will meet in the other semifinal.

The district continues to collect donations to help cover the cost of the trip. If you’d like to support the team, contribute through their GoFundMe page here.

NHL
The Detroit Red Wings snapped their 10-game winless streak with a 5-4 shootout victory over the Philadelphia Flyers last night. Detroit led 3-1 going into the third period, with second period goals from Dylan Larkin, Luke Glendening, and the first NHL score for Evgeny Svechnikov. That flurry caused Philadelphia to pull former Detroit goaltender Petr Mrazek from the game. The Flyers scored twice in the third period to tie the game, Larkin’s second goal of the night with six minutes remaining put the Wings back on top, but Philly tied it again a few seconds later. After a scoreless extra frame, Frans Nielsen netted the only goal in the shootout. The Wings will host the Washington Capitals tomorrow night. Pregame coverage begins at 7:10 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA
Reggie Jackson returned to the Detroit Pistons’ lineup last night, as Detroit buried the Phoenix Suns 115-88. Jackson saw limited playing time, after missing the past 37 games with a high ankle sprain. Blake Griffin led Detroit with 26 points, nine rebounds and 10 assists. The Pistons will visit Houston to face the Rockets tomorrow night.

MLB
In spring training baseball, the Detroit Tigers defeated the New York Yankees 8-3 yesterday.  Victor Martinez blasted his fifth home run of the spring. The Tigers will face the Atlanta Braves tonight.

The Milwaukee Brewers and Colorado Rockies played to a 4-4 tie yesterday. Junior Guerra pitched into the sixth inning, and gave up three runs on eight hits. Prospect Brett Phillips homered. The Brewers will split their squad for games against the Oakland Athletics this afternoon, and the Seattle Mariners this evening.
