MLB
Justin Verlander turned in another strong outing, as the Detroit Tigers got past the Philadelphia Phillies 3-1 last night. Verlander struck out 10 over eight shutout innings, and allowed just three hits. Francisco Rodriguez allowed a run in the ninth, but closed out the game, and earned his 400th career save. Miguel Cabrera drove in two of Detroit’s runs.

The Tigers have won eight of their last nine games, and wrap up that home set against the Phillies this afternoon. Anibal Sanchez will start against Aaron Nola. Hear the first pitch at 1:10 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

Ian Kinsler missed last night’s game because of the flu. Meanwhile, the Tigers continue to play without outfielder Justin Upton. Manager Brad Ausmus says Upton will probably rest his tight right quad until Friday’s game at Oakland. The jury is still out on pitcher Jordan Zimmermann’s groin strain. Ausmus says Zimmermann will do some throwing this weekend, after which they’ll decide if he needs time on the disabled list.

The Milwaukee Brewers edged the Atlanta Braves 2-1. Scooter Gennett singled in the winning run in the eighth inning. Brewers’ starter Jimmy Nelson turned in six strong innings, giving up a run on four hits. Michael Blazek got the win in relief.

The Brewers play at Atlanta again tonight. Junior Guerra will pitch against Mike Foltynewicz.

NHL
In the NHL playoffs, the Penguins stayed alive with a 5-2 victory over the Lightning last night. The Eastern Conference final is tied at three wins per team, and will be decided tomorrow night. The Blues and Sharks play tonight – San Jose leads the Western Conference final three games to two.

NBA
In the NBA playoffs, the Thunder shut down the Warriors 118-94. It’s the first time this season that Golden State has lost back-to-back games, and it leaves them on the brink of elimination. Oklahoma City leads the Western Conference final three games to one. The Raptors and Cavaliers play tonight – their Eastern Conference final is tied at two wins per team.
