Justin Verlander struggled, as the Detroit Tigers fell to the Cleveland Indians 7-3 last night. Verlander gave up all seven runs on eight hits over five innings, and saw his season earned run average balloon to 6.49. Ian Kinsler hit a two-run homer for Detroit.

That series continues in Cleveland tonight. Anibal Sanchez will start against Corey Kluber. Hear the first pitch at 6:10 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

The Milwaukee Brewers came from behind to edge the Los Angeles Angels 5-4 last night. Junior Guerra gave up four runs over the first three innings in his first start for the Brewers, but settled in to pitch through the sixth. His teammates scored two runs int eh third inning, and three in the fifth to complete the comeback. Chris Carter homered twice, and Jonathan Lucroy also hit one out.

That series wraps up in Milwaukee this afternoon. Zach Davies will pitch against Hector Santiago.

In NHL second-round playoff action last night, the Lightning edged the Islanders 5-4 in overtime. The Predators defeated the Sharks 4-1. The Blues pounded the Stars 6-1. Each of the winners leads their best-of-seven series two games to one.

In the NBA playoffs, the Heat defeated the Raptors 102-96 in the opening game of their second-round series. The Warriors dumped the Trailblazers 110-99, and lead that series two games to none.

Michigan Tech has named its football captains for the 2016 season. Brandon Cowie, Evan Mayer, Ben Tauchen and David Walter will share the responsibilities. Cowie also served as a captain last fall.
