Viking Girls Claim Regional Crown – Thursday Sports Wrap

High School

The Baraga Vikings girls basketball team won a regional title last night, with a hard-fought 45-40 victory over Stephenson at Kingsford. The game was tight the whole way. Baraga opened a nine-point lead in the third quarter. Stephenson narrowed the gap to one in the fourth quarter, but two late free throws from Reide Osterman sealed the win for the Vikings. Rylie Koskinen led Baraga with 17 points, and Jaylyne Lindemann added 15.

The Vikings will face Saint Ignace in the quarterfinals Tuesday. The Saints are unbeaten, and won their regional title last evening by defeating Mackinaw City 71-17.

The Dollar Bay-Tamarack City boys team will meet Southfield Christian in the state semifinals today. The game tips off at 5:30 at the Breslin Center in East Lansing.

Finlandia

The Finlandia University softball and baseball teams continue their Florida spring break schedules.

The softball team lost to Ohio Wesleyan University 10-2, and fell to Suffolk University 2-1 yesterday. The Lions will face Olivet College and Catholic University today.

The baseball team wrapped up its southern schedule with a doubleheader split with Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham yesterday. The Lions dropped the first game 18-5, then came from behind to take the second contest 11-10. Joey Krug homered for the Lions in the second game. The Lions forced extra innings by scoring five runs in the seventh, then won it when Sawyer Murrell singled home Seth Gosse in the eighth.

NHL

The Detroit Red Wings will host the Tampa Bay Lightning tonight. Pregame coverage begins at 7:10 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons’ offense struggled again last night in a 108-74 loss to the Miami Heat. Blake Griffin led Detroit with 13 points. The Pistons host the Los Angeles Lakers tomorrow evening. Pregame coverage starts at 6:35 on 99.3 The Lift.

Reggie Jackson left last night’s game in the fourth quarter with an ankle injury. He’ll be evaluated today.

MLB

The Detroit Tigers had yesterday off, and face the Boston Red Sox this afternoon in Grapefruit League play. Listen for Tigers baseball again this season on 99.3 The Lift.

The Milwaukee Brewers lost 9-3 to a split Cleveland Indians squad in Cactus League action yesterday. Keston Hiura homered. Chase Anderson gave up four runs over four innings. The Brewers will face the California Angels this afternoon.
