Volleyball Wins for Jets, Bolts and Hornets – Wednesday Sports Wrap

High School

In high school volleyball last night…
• Jeffers shut down Baraga 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-8). Kaeda Rajala had 14 kills and Mia Nordstrom added 11 for the Jets. Taylor Heinonen and Mia Nordstrom each had four aces.
• Dollar Bay-Tamarack City blanked Chassell 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-19).
• L’Anse stopped Watersmeet 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-18). Mylee Londo led the Purple Hornets with five kills. Brooklyn Dompier had three aces.
• Ewen-Trout Creek downed Ontonagon 3-0.

MLB

The Tigers lost 5-1 to the Yankees last night. Kerry Carpenter had two hits, and scored Detroit’s only run. New York’s Giancarlo Stanton hit his 400th career home run.

The Tigers play in New York again tonight. Matt Manning will start against Clarke Schmidt. Coverage will begin at 6:40 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Brewers exploded for six runs in the fifth inning, and cruised past the Pirates 7-3 last night. Brandon Woodruff allowed just two hits over seven shutout innings. Clayton Andrews gave up a three-run homer in the ninth. Andruw Monasterio tripled for Milwaukee, and Sal Frelick had two hits.

The Brewers visit the Pirates again this afternoon. Freddy Peralta will start for Milwaukee.

The Reds and Cubs also won, so Milwaukee’s lead in the National League Central Division stays at two-and-a-half games over Chicago, and five-and-a-half over Cincinnati.
