That series continues in Chicago tonight. Jimmy Nelson will pitch against John Lackey.

The Detroit Red Wings didn’t need to look far to find their new goaltending coach. Jeff Salajko has been promoted from Detroit’s AHL affiliate in Grand Rapids to take over for Jim Bedard, whose contract was not renewed.

WCHA
WCHA LogoThe Western Collegiate Hockey Association is abandoning its long-standing Final Five post-season neutral-site tournament. For at least the next three seasons, the tournament will consist of four best-of-three quarterfinal series… two best-of-three semifinal series the following weekend… and a single-game final the week after that. Each game will be hosted by the highest-seeded team. The move seems to have been forced by financial considerations. Attendance at this year’s championship game in Grand Rapids was just over four-thousand… a fraction of the more than 15-thousand that typically watched the title game in St. Paul before conference realignment took place. This year’s attendance might have been even lower if one of the finalists hadn’t been Ferris State, which is located just an hour away from the arena. The WCHA did have a contract to play the 2017 tournament at the Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul. The league’s press release did not address that situation.

Our spring sports broadcast schedule continues Friday when the Jeffers baseball team plays at Hancock. Our coverage of the second game of their doubleheader begins around 5:45 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.
