MLB – Tigers Salvage One Against Brewers
The Detroit Tigers scored three times in the eighth inning, and beat the Milwaukee Brewers 5-2 last night. Nick Castellanos drove in all three of those runs with a bases-loaded triple. Tigers’ starter Shane Greene pitched into the seventh, and was charged with both Milwaukee runs. Blaine Hardy got the win in relief.

The Tigers open a home set against the Houston Astros this afternoon. David Price will start against Scott Feldman. Hear the first pitch at 1:08 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.

The Brewers begin a series against the Braves at Atlanta tonight. Matt Garza will start against Julio Teheran.

At the WestPAC track meet at Calumet yesterday, Calumet won the girls; competition, outpointing Houghton 113-96. West Iron County was third, followed by Hancock and L’Anse. Houghton took the boys’ title 143-94 over Calumet. West Iron County was third, L’Anse fourth, and Hancock fifth. Full results were not provided.

Copper Country Slow Pitch Logo– At Miller Memorial Field in Laurium, Post 90-Lakes Lounge scored five runs in the bottom of the ninth inning, and edged Bucko’s-Labatts 28-26. Kevin LaRoux and Joe Rivest homered for Post 90. The result of Bucko’s game against Monte Carlo-Coca Cola was not reported.
– At Hurontown, the result of The Marley Bar game against Tech was not posted. Matt’s Auto Glass overpowered Downtowner 34-1. Jeff Aho and Darren Kinnunen homered for Matt’s
– At the Hancock Driving Park, results from McGann’s-Northern Auto’ games against Andy’s Team and Auto Value were not posted.
– At Tapiola, Erickson Crowley Peterson defeated The Library-ThermoAnalytics 22-6. Jon Boever, Zack Savola and Matt Turunen homered for the winner. Erickson Crowley Peterson then defeated Nutini’s 13-6. Chad Cichosz and Buddy Londo homered.

Red Wings Begin Coach Search
The Detroit Red Wings are looking for a new head coach, following yesterday’s announcement by Mike Babcock that he will be leaving to coach the Toronto Maple Leafs. Babcock’s destination came as a surprise, and seems to have been financially motivated. His deal with Toronto is reported to be worth 50-million dollars over eight seasons. Detroit had offered him a contract worth 20-million over five seasons. Grand Rapids Griffins coach Jeff Blashill is the leading candidate to replace Babcock.

The three-day Ride the Keweenaw weekend begins tomorrow. Friday’s events group rides at the Adventure Mine in Greenland.
