NHL

The Red Wings’ playoff hopes took a hit last night, with a 2-1 loss to the Capitals. Patrick Kane scored Detroit’s only goal with just two seconds remaining in the contest. Alex Lyon made 21 saves. Alex Ovechkin’s goal for Washington made him the first NHL player ever to score at least 30 goals in 18 different seasons.

The win moved Washington into the final Eastern Conference Wild Card playoff position, with 85 standings points. Detroit and Pittsburgh each have 84 points. Philadelphia lost last night, so they hold with 83 points. Each team has four regular-season games remaining.

The Wings visit the Penguins tomorrow night. Coverage begins at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Pistons lost again last night, 120-102 to the 76ers. With Cade Cunningham still sidelined with a gimpy knee, Jaden Ivey led Detroit with 25 points. Evan Fournier added 21 off the bench.

The loss guaranteed that the Pistons will at least tie the team record for fewest wins in a season. They have three games, and will host the Bulls tomorrow.

MLB

The Tigers scored four runs in the ninth inning, and came from behind to defeat the Pirates 5-3 yesterday. Pittsburgh contributed to the rally. Two Detroit hitters were hit by pitches, and Zach McInstry scored the tying run when center fielder Michael A. Taylor’s throw to third base skipped past, and landed in the camera well. Kerry Carpenter then singled home the game-winner, and Jake Rogers’ single plated an insurance run. Starter Casey Mize gave up two runs over five innings.

The Tigers have today off, and will host the Twins tomorrow afternoon. Tarik Skubal will start against Pablo López. Coverage will start at 12:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Brewers built a big lead, and held off the Reds 9-4 last evening. Blake Perkins had three hits, drove home three runs, and scored twice. Christian Yelich had two hits and drove in three runs. Joe Ross pitched into the seventh inning, and earned the win.

The Brewers visit the Reds again tonight. Wade Miley will pitch against Hunter Greene.
