NHL
The Detroit Red Wings lost to the New York Rangers 3-2 Saturday, but still clinched their 25th consecutive playoff berth when the Boston Bruins lost to the Ottawa Senators. Jimmy Howard stopped 17 of 19 shots. Detroit trailed 2-1 when they pulled Howard in favor of an extra attacker with about two-and-a-half minutes remaining. The Rangers found the empty net just a few seconds later. Justin Abdelkader scored for Detroit with about 90 seconds remaining. The Wings would have clinched third place in the Atlantic Division and a playoff berth with a win. Boston’s 6-1 loss to Ottawa, however, was just as effective. Detroit will face the Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round, beginning Wednesday.

NBA
The Detroit Pistons host the Miami Heat Tuesday night.
