MLB
Jose Ramirez’ bases-loaded hit off Justin Wilson in the bottom of the 10th inning lifted the Cleveland Indians to a 1-0 victory over the Detroit Tigers Saturday. The loss spoiled a great effort by starter Justin Verlander, who gave up just one hit over seven innings. The Tigers managed just four hits off a collection of Cleveland relievers, who were pressed into service when starter Carlos Carrasco was hit by a line drive two pitches into the game, and had to leave.

The Tigers wrap up that series in Cleveland this afternoon. Daniel Norris will start against Trevor Bauer. Hear the first pitch at 1:10 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

The Indians now lead the Tigers by eight games in the American League Central Division. Any combination of seven Cleveland wins or Detroit losses clinches the division title for the Indians. Toronto and Baltimore also lost, so the Tigers still trail both of those teams by three games in the race for the final American League wild card playoff berth.

The Milwaukee Brewers spotted the Chicago Cubs three runs in the first inning, then roared back to take an 11-3 victory Saturday. Zach Davies overcame the shaky start to complete five innings. Ryan Braun had two two-run homers, and Chris Carter belted a grand slam to power the comeback.

The Brewers conclude that set in Chicago this afternoon. Wily Peralta will pitch against Kyle Hendricks.

NFL
This afternoon, the Lions host the Titans. Linebacker DeAndre Levy is listed as doubtful because of a quad injury.

Tonight, the Packers visit the Vikings. Cornerback Sam Shields will not play because of a concussion. Cornerback Josh Hawkins is also out.

Our high school football coverage continues Friday night, when Calumet plays at Hancock in a battle for first place in the WestPac… and Saturday afternoon, when Houghton plays at West Iron County. Hear both games on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com
