Wins for Tigers, Brewers – Friday Sports Wrap

High School

The Hancock baseball and softball games at Hurley scheduled for today have been postponed. No make-up date has been announced.

The Lake Linden-Hubbell at Bark River-Harris baseball games scheduled for tomorrow have also been called off.

College Softball

The Finlandia softball team’s doubleheaders against Maranatha Baptist scheduled for today and tomorrow have been canceled because of the weather. They will not be made up.

College Baseball

The Finlandia University baseball team plays doubleheaders at Wisconsin-Oshkosh this afternoon and tomorrow.

College Volleyball

The Finlandia volleyball team has introduced a new recruit. Brooke Ilgen hails from Capitan, New Mexico.

NBA

The final seeds in the NBA tournament will be decided tonight…
• In the Eastern Conference, the Atlanta Hawks play the Cleveland Cavaliers.
• In the Western Conference, the New Orleans Pelicans face the Los Angeles Clippers.

NHL

Alex Nedeljkovic made 46 saves, as the Detroit Red Wings blanked the Carolina Hurricanes 3-0 last night. The game was scoreless until Moritz Seider found the net in the closing seconds of the second period. Adam Erne and Filip Zadina added insurance markers in the third period. 

The Wings visit the New York Rangers tomorrow afternoon. Coverage will begin at 12:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

MLB

The Detroit Tigers downed the Kansas City Royals 4-2 last night. Detroit loaded the bases in the second inning. One run was forced home when Spencer Torkelson was hit by a pitch. Harold Castro’s sacrifice fly scored another. K-C tied it with a pair of runs off Casey Mize in the fourth inning. Mize completed five frames, and gave up six hits. The Tigers took the lead for good in the seventh inning, on a walk to Torkelson, and consecutive singles by Eric Haase, Victor Reyes and Austin Meadows.

The Tigers visit the Royals again tonight. Tarik Skubal will start against Brad Keller. Coverage begins at 7:50 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Milwaukee Brewers took command early in their home opener yesterday, and cruised past the Saint Louis Cardinals 5-1. The Crew scored four runs over the first three innings, with help from a Kolton Wong triple and an Omar Narváez home run. Brandon Woodruff gave up three hits over five shutout innings.

The Brewers host the Cardinals again this evening. Freddy Peralta will start against Miles Mikolas.

NFL

The Green Bay Packers have signed veteran wide receiver Sammy Watkins. Watkins will be entering his ninth season. He’s played for the Buffalo Bills, the Los Angeles Rams, the Kansas City Chiefs, and spent last year with the Baltimore Ravens.
