Jordan Zimmermann had a bad day at the office, and the Detroit Tigers’ win streak ended with a 7-2 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays yesterday afternoon. Zimmermann gave up home runs to Justin Smoak and Josh Donaldson, and a two-run triple to Kevin Pillar before leaving the game in the fifth inning. He was charged with all seven Toronto runs. Detroit’s runs came on a first-inning homer by Nick Castallanos.

The Tigers take today off, and open a weekend set against the Yankees tomorrow night in New York. Mike Pelfrey will face CC Sabathia. Hear the first pitch at 7:05 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

Outfielder Cameron Maybin received an anti-inflammatory injection in his sore left wrist yesterday. He’s missed two games, but hopes to be back in the lineup tomorrow. That is the same wrist he broke during spring training.

Chase Anderson gave up just two hits over 6-2/3rds innings, as the Milwaukee Brewers blanked the Oakland Athletics 4-0 last night. Blaine Boyer and Will Smith completed what turned out to be a three-hit shutout. Scooter Gennett drove in three Milwaukee runs with a pair of singles.

The Brewers begin a four-game home set against the New York Mets tonight. Jimmy Nelson will pitch against Bartolo Colon.

Milwaukee has brought reliever Corey Knebel off the disabled list. Reliever Neil Ramirez was designated for assignment to make room on the roster. Ramirez joined the team just last week, after having been claimed off waivers from the Cubs. He’ll go back on waivers, and can be sent to Milwaukee’s minor league system if he clears.

The Major League Baseball amateur draft begins tonight, with the first two rounds and mid-round compensatory picks. The Phillies pick first. The Tigers have only one selection tonight – the ninth. The Brewers have the fifth, 46th and 75th picks on the first night.

Copper Country Women’s Fast Pitch Softball
– Northern Michigan Land Brokers scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, and defeated Mattila Rock and Dock 10-4. Hannah Hill was the winning pitcher. Sammi Jahfetson took the loss. Alexa Johnson tripled and singled for Northern Michigan Land Brokers. Darla Mensch had two hits for Mattila.
– Superior National Bank built an early lead, and defeated Mattila Rock and Dock 12-3. Molly Berg had three hits, including a triple, for Superior National. Laura Berg had two hits. Jahfetson had a triple for Mattila. Adena Anderson struck out 10, and was the winning pitcher. Jahfetson again took the loss.

Copper Country Twilight League
In Copper Country Twilight League baseball tonight…
– The Copper Country Miners meet Superior National Bank-Stanton at the Stanton field.
– Dean Kangas-State Farm takes on Wolverine-Orbit at the Wolverine field.
Both games begin at 6:30.

NBA
The Cleveland Cavaliers woke up last night, and routed the Golden State Warriors 120-90. Golden State still leads the NBA championship series two games to one. Game four will be played tomorrow night.

NHL
The Stanley Cup series could be decided tonight, when the Pittsburgh Penguins face the San Jose Sharks. Pittsburgh leads the NHL championship series three games to one.
