MLB
Jordan Zimmermann turned in another impressive start, as the Detroit Tigers defeated the Minnesota Twins 4-1 on Saturday. Zimmermann gave up a run on six hits over seven innings. He struck out seven to improve to 5-0 on the season. Detroit scored all the runs they needed when Justin Upton clubbed a three-run homer in the first inning.

The Tigers will try to sweep that weekend series at Minnesota this afternoon. Mike Pelfrey will start for Detroit. Ricky Nolasco will counter  for the Twins. Hear the first pitch at 2:10 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

Anderson

A late Milwaukee comeback fell short, as the Brewers fell to the Miami Marlins 7-5 on Saturday. Chase Anderson continued Milwaukee’s string of ineffective starts. He left in the fifth inning, and was charged with six runs on nine hits. The Brewers narrowed the gap with a four-run seventh, but could get no closer.

The Brewers host the Marlins again this afternoon. Wily Peralta will pitch against Tom Koehler.

NHL
In Saturday’s NHL playoff games, the Lighting defeated the Islanders 4-1, and the Penguins edged the Capitals 2-1. Each of those second-round series are tied at one win per team.

As expected, forward Joakim Andersson is leaving the Detroit Red Wings. After five seasons in the NHL, he’s signed a contract with a team in his native Sweden.

NBA
In Saturday’s only NBA playoff match, the Spurs routed the Thunder 124-92 in the first game of their second-round series.

NFL
Lions-Packers FeatureOn the final day of the NFL draft, the Detroit Lions took Southern Utah strong safety Miles Killebrew in the fourth round, Washington State offensive guard  Joe Dahl and Georgia Southern linebacker Antwione Williams in the fifth, Michigan quarterback Jake Rudock, Penn State defensive tackle Anthony Zettel and Baylor long snapper Jimmy Landes in the sixth, and Washington running back Dwayne Washington in the seventh.

The Packers completed their draft by taking Stanford linebacker Blake Martinez and Northwestern defensive end Dean Lowry in the fourth round, California wide receiver Trevor Davis in the fifth, and Stanford tackle Kyle Murphy in the sixth.

Our spring sports broadcast schedule continues Wednesday, when the Hancock softball team plays at Houghton. Our coverage of the second game of that doubleheader will begin around 6:00 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.
